Using the Spiral Model and MBASE to Generate New Acquisition Process Models: SAIV, CAIV, and SCQAIV

چکیده
1.1 The Challenge A number of DoD organizations are responding to the DoD Evolutionary Acquisition initiative in DoDI 5000.2 [1] by organizing evolutionary increments of capability around the objective of developing and fielding each increment within a fixed schedule (frequently 18 or 24 months) or fixed budget. Examples are new capabilities or major upgrades for such software-intensive systems as C3I, logistics, or combat platform electronics suites.

The Schedule as Independent Variable (SAIV) Process for Acquisition Software-Intensive Systems
In this article, we show how you can use the MBASE process framework to generate a family of acquisition process models for delivering user-satisfactory systems under schedule, cost, and quality constraints. We present the six major steps of the Schedule/Cost/Schedule-Cost-Quality as Independent Variable (SAIV/CAIV/SCQAIV) process using SAIV and a representative Department of Defense (DoD) Comm...

R ecent events in Afghanistan have convincingly demonstrated the value of software and information technology in achieving military superiority. Each of the Department of Defense (DoD) services has major initiatives to pursue even more advanced software-intensive systems concepts involving network-centric warfare with self-adaptive networks and cooperating human and autonomous agents. However, ...
متن کاملMastering rapid delivery and change with the SAIV process model
Ensuring on time, within-budget delivery is increasingly difficult in the information technology (IT) field because of the increasingly rapid rate of requirements volatility of IT systems under development. This paper describes the Model-Based (System) Architecting and Software Engineering (MBASE)'s Schedule as Independent Variable (SAIV) approach to this problem, and illustrates the nature of ...
متن کاملRealizing the Benefits of the CMMI with the CeBASE Method
Future systems will be increasingly software-intensive, but the type of software development they will need is not well covered by current development and maturity models such as the waterfall model and Software Capability Maturity Model (CMM). Future development of software-intensive systems will need situation-specific balancing of discipline and flexibility to address such issues as COTS, op...
متن کاملIntroduction to MBASE (Model-Based [System] Architecting and Software Engineering)
Even when sophisticated software development process is used, e.g., the Stakeholder Win Win Risk-Driven Spiral Process, software development projects often fail. A prime reason for this failure is unresolved, often undetected, differences among stakeholders’ sets of assumptions—their “models”—of various aspects of the project. MBASE is an approach to identifying “model clashes” so that their ri...
